Altseason
Altseason is a period when most altcoins rise noticeably faster than bitcoin. It usually comes with falling BTC dominance and a frenzy across the market.
How it works
A common story goes like this: bitcoin rises first, then money rotates into large altcoins like ETH, and then into small, riskier coins. When most of the market outperforms bitcoin, people call it altseason. It is not a law, and every cycle plays out differently.
There is no strict definition. One popular index says altseason is on when about 75% of the top 50 coins beat bitcoin over 90 days. Others watch BTC dominance or the ETH/BTC ratio.
Altseasons tend to be short and sharp: multiples in weeks, then a deep fall. Near the end the weakest coins and memecoins often pump hardest, and the people who buy at the top lose the most.
Over 90 days bitcoin rose 20%. Of the top 50 coins, 40 rose more than 20%, which is 80%, above the 75% threshold. By that index it is altseason. A month later many of those coins had dropped 40–60%.
The main mistake is loading up on small altcoins while waiting for an altseason that is "about to start", and holding them with no exit plan. Altseason may not come for years, and when it does it ends fast. Decide in advance at what price you take profit, and do not add risk at the height of the frenzy.
